Renovations to Astoria’s Triborough Bridge Playground C are set to begin in early 2017.
The project will include a new dog run, making it the first designated dog run in Astoria, and an upgraded basketball court.
The dog run will feature different play areas, which will include rocky mounds and a spray fire hydrant to keep the dogs cool. Large and small dogs will be separated with designated areas for each. The design of the dog run area will be in the shape of a dog bone and will be brightly colored.
Upgrades to the basketball area will feature new hoops and rims, improved court paint and new benches. The two areas will be separated by a tall fence.
During the spring 2015 Participatory Budgeting ballot proposal, the upgrade project garnered the second-most votes out of 20 projects. Community residents voted in favor of building the new dog run at the Triborough Playground C.
The dog run design received praise from Borough President Melinda Katz, state Sen. Michael Gianaris (D-Astoria), Councilman Costa Constantinides (D-Astoria), Community Board 1, Old Astoria Neighborhood Association and Astoria Dog Owners Association.
