This image, provided by the Greater Astoria Historical Society shows the Pan American Hotel on Queens Boulevard in Elmhurst. When the Pan American Motor Inn opened at 79-00 Queens Blvd., it boasted 220 rooms with air-conditioning and color TV along with a restaurant, cocktail lounge and swimming pool. The hotel closed in 2014 and was repurposed as an emergency homeless shelter.
