The Downtown Jamaica Draft Board #187 was one of 190 draft boards in New York City that were used during the 24,000,000 call-up for World War I. More than 500,000 New Yorkers served, comprising 12.5 percent of the four million United States troops. A total of 13,956 lost their lives fighting for their country.
