The Myrtle Avenue BID was established in July 1988 to provide supplemental services and programs for an enhanced shopping environment on Myrtle Avenue and adjacent side streets from Fresh Pond Rd. to Wyckoff Ave. in Ridgewood. Today, the BID provides a variety of services, including a daily sweeping patrol service which includes the use of two state of the art sidewalk sweeping machines known as “The Green Machines”; graffiti removal and horticultural services; streetscape improvements and ongoing marketing and promotional programs.
For holiday shoppers, the unique blend of national chains and family-owned shops offer a combination of value and convenience that rivals any shopping district in the city. The Myrtle Avenue BID promises each and every shopper the best selection of gifts — at the best prices — in a safe and clean environment.
During the holiday season, the BID sponsors holiday lighting with full arches and pole decorations and holiday music playing daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. until early January. This year on Small Business Saturday, Nov. 28, the BID will kick-off the holiday season with Pictures with Santa, Rudolph and the elves at the 71st Avenue Plaza (just off Myrtle & Forest Avenues) 12 to 3 p.m. There will be free candy canes and a special surprise for each child (while supplies last). The NYC Brass Entourage will play live holiday music for all. On Friday, Dec. 11 and 18, 3 to 5 p.m. Opera on Tap Carolers will be strolling on Myrtle Ave in the BID.
