Corona-based percussionist Samuel Torres will perform original compositions from his forthcoming album, Alegria, at the City College Center for The Arts on May 18. The concert, titled “Alegria, Urban Latin Jazz Portrait,” will begin at 7:30 p.m. in City College’s Aaron Davis Hall.
Torres, a native of Columbia, has worked with such music icons as Tito Puente, Arturo Sandoval, Chick Corea, Ricky Martin, Marc Anthony and Shakira.
Alegria, which means “happiness” in English, pays homage to the people of Colombia and other Latin American nations. Torres said that the album is a nod to Latin Americans’ resilient spirit and ability to find joy in the darkest times.
