To qualify for the President’s List, students must earn a 3.75 or higher GPA.
Deeba Carvan, 21, of Bayside, was one of 53 Hofstra University students inducted into Phi Beta Kappa on April 23, 2015. Deeba is a Pre-Health, Geography major.
Robyn E. Baldwin of Little Neck graduated Saturday, May 16, from Elizabethtown College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology.

Jina Zablan is one of five Hofstra University students to have been inducted into the Japanese National Honor Society (JNHS) during the spring 2015. JNHS “recognizes and encourages achievement and excellence in the study of the Japanese language.” Jina, a member of Hofstra’s Class of 2015 and a Biology major, is now among the more than 800 college and university students to have been inducted into JNHS since its establishment in 2007.

Argina R. Girsang of Sunnyside. Girsang received the degree of bachelor of arts. Girsang is a member of the Class of 2015 and majored in government. Girsang graduated from The Baccalaureate School for Global Education; Jacqueline A. Grey of Astoria. Grey received the degree of bachelor of science Magna cum laude. Grey is a member of the Class of 2015 and majored in geology and history. Grey graduated from Evangel Christian School and Marella Y. Romero of Jackson Heights. Romero received the degree of bachelor of arts. Romero is a member of the Class of 2015 and majored in international economics-multilanguage. Romero graduated from Frank Sinatra High School of the Arts.
Jonathan Ramon of Jackson Heights, has achieved a place on the University of Evansville Dean’s List for academic achievements during the Spring Semester 2015. Ramon is majoring in Sport Communication.
To make the Dean’s List, a student at UE must earn at least a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
U.S. Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Juan L. Velazquez graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.Velazquez is the son of Juan L. Velazquez of South Richmond Hill. He is a 2014 graduate of Holy Cross High School, Flushing.
The State University of New York at Potsdam recently named 907 students to the President’s List, in recognition of their academic excellence in the Spring 2015 semester.
The students included:
Alyssa Pannizzo of Rego Park, whose major is Psychology and Dillon Yeh of Forest Hills, whose major is Computer Science. To achieve the honor of being on the President’s List, each student must have satisfactorily completed 12 numerically-graded semester hours, with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
Alicia Brooke Fish of Forest Hills, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Exercise Science and Physical Education from McDaniel College. McDaniel awarded 358 bachelor’s degrees during the 145th Commencement on May 23, 2015.
Army Pvt. Andres Ramirez has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
Ramirez is the son of Ralphael Ares of Broad Channel. He is a 2014 graduate of Cathedral Preparatory Seminary, Elmhurst.
