When the Assembly was considering who should replace Sheldon Silver as speaker, we spoke up for Catherine Nolan, the Queens Assemblywoman who serves as head of the education committee.
While the Speaker job eventually went to Carl Heastie, we were dismayed to see our endorsement got no goodwill from Nolan’s office.
After we reached out to offer Nolan an op-ed in our charter school section this week – with ample notice about a topic she frequently discusses – we were told she did not have the time to participate.
We would have loved to print Nolan’s thoughts on the topic, and we’re disappointed she declined our invitation. You would think she would want to have her thoughts on the topic promoted as a new session begins and a battle over charter schools heats up.
