Police allegedly caught two men trying to steal Christmas packages from a South Ozone Park family in true Grinch-like fashion.
The incident occurred within the confines of the 106th Precinct on Sunday afternoon. According to police, 18-year-old Aron Abudm, of Brooklyn, and 20-year-old Jose Espinal, of Queens, stole a package left outside of a home located at 117th Street near 133rd Avenue.
Police said that an eyewitness saw the two flee the scene with the package and called 911. Shortly after the crime was reported, police tracked down the vehicle and allegedly found the two perpetrators inside with the package, a new Xbox video game console, already opened. Abud and Espinal were arrested and charged with criminal possession of stolen property and petty larceny. Police later tweeted that the package was returned to its rightful owner.
“This lady has a good reason to be smiling right now,” the tweet read. “Today, officers responded to a 911 call of two males stealing packages in front of a home. Both suspects were arrested and the package was returned to the recipient in one piece!”
