Did you know that stress—“the silent killer”—is responsible for 60 percent of illnesses and diseases, such as anxiety and depression. One in six Americans over the age of 50 takes antidepressants to treat anxiety and depression.
As a Certified Personal Trainer and Reiki master, I encourage clients to work closely with a spiritual psychotherapist to help them get to the “root” cause of the stress, anxiety or depression, while working with a Reiki master to help unblock any suppressed emotions.
What is a spiritual psychotherapist? A psychotherapist addresses the need of the soul and spirit as well as the human experience. I like to refer to a spiritual psychotherapist as someone who focuses on the “total person,” not only what’s going on in the mind.
As a part of the natural healing approach, I recommend using essential oils and crystals. For this article, I will discuss several essential oils that are highly recommended to help manage or heal stress, anxiety and depression.
Stress: Lavender, Frankincense, Peppermint and Ylang Ylang
Anxiety: Rose, Clay Sage and Sandlewood
Depression: Jasmine, Frankincense, Bergamot and Chamomile
While working with my client during their Reiki healing treatment, I often use my personal favorite essential oil, Elevation, which is a blend of several oils—to name a few, Melissa, Ylang Ylang, Osmanthus and Hawaiian Sandlewood. Elevation helps to promote a positive mood and feelings of confidence.
This regimen is highly effective with the use of medication—however, as an advocate of natural healing, I work with clients and their physicians to help the client slowly come off of all medications.
