A Queens Village man faces up to 50 years in prison after murdering a Ridgewood teen and shooting a man during a drug deal, the Queens district attorney said.
Jairam C. Ali Suarez, 26, was convicted on Oct. 11 of two counts of second-degree murder, first degree assault and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, robbery and attempted robbery, Queens DA Richard Brown said.
Suarez, a Queens Village resident, was planning on stealing a pound of marijuana from two men in a car in Ridgewood in the early morning hours of Jan. 5, 2015.
Two men, John Pichardo, 19, and Wilfredo Aponte, 21, were parked in a car in from of 150-22 130th St. in Ridgewood, when Suarez entered the backseat of the car to purchase drugs. Suarez shot Pichardo, who was sitting in the driver’s seat, in the back of the head and shot Aponte in the upper right leg and then fled the scene. Aponte was transported to a local hospital and survived his injury.
“In rendering its verdict, the jury found the defendant guilty of committing a cold and calculating act,” Brown said. “The actions of the defendant warrants imposition of a lengthy prison sentence to punish him and protect society.”
