An apartment fire on Tuesday night in Long Island City left 10 people injured, one seriously, the FDNY said.
The fire started around 10:40 p.m. in a first-floor apartment on 46th Avenue.
Firefighters discovered a man who was seriously injured outside of the apartment’s bedroom. He was conscious—but badly burned and unable to move, the FDNY said. The man was taken to New York Presbyterian Hospital’s Cornell Burn Unit in serious condition.
The FDNY confirmed that a total of 10 residents were treated. Five of them were treated onsite for non-life threatening injuries, while five others required hospitalization. Four were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in stable condition.
According to the FDNY, the fire was under control by 11:21 p.m. As of Wednesday, the FDNY said that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
