The third annual Independence Day Fireworks Show and Concert will return to Fort Totten in late June, Councilman Paul Vallone (D-Bayside), who sponsors the event, announced this week.
The event, which will be hosted by the Bayside Historical Society, will take place on June 28, beginning at 6 p.m. with a number of musical performances that will run until 9 p.m. Then, at 9:15 p.m., there will be a 15-minute fireworks show by the fireworks company Grucci that will be staged from a barge on Little Neck Bay. The event will also include vending trucks with food, snacks and beverages throughout the night.
“I can’t imagine a better way to kick-start the summer than with a fireworks show and concert in Fort Totten,” Vallone said. “For a third straight year, residents in northeast Queens won’t have to travel far to enjoy world-class fireworks with friends, family and neighbors. These types of family events really bring the community together in celebration and I thank everybody who has worked tirelessly to organize the event, as well as everybody who will be working and volunteering on June 28th to ensure everything goes off without a hitch.”
The event is nonalcoholic and all bags, coolers and backpacks will be inspected before entering the park. Parking is available at the Little Bay Parking Lot, which is located underneath the Throgs Neck Bridge along Bell Boulevard west of Fort Totten, and, after 5 p.m., at the Clearview Golf Course and Bay Terrace Shopping Center. Shuttles by Vallo Transportation will take guests from offsite parking locations to the celebration. Guests are encouraged to bike, walk or bus to the event, given the number of expected guests, and are also invited to bring their own blankets and lawn chairs.
“We’re proud to partner with Councilmember Vallone to once again host this historic concert and fireworks show in Fort Totten,” said Paul Di Benedetto, the president of the Bayside Historical Society. “This year will be even bigger and better than last year.”
