Mission: The Queens Botanical Garden, located at the northeast corner of Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, is a private, nonprofit cultural institution that evolved from the 5-acre “Gardens on Parade” exhibit showcased at the 1939-1940 New York World’s Fair. Officially opening as the Queens Botanical Garden in 1948 after local residents saved and grew the original exhibit, QBG is now one of the City’s 34 Cultural Institutions Group (CIG) members, featuring 39 acres of City land under its care. A living museum serving the most ethnically diverse county in the United States, QBG is committed to presenting collections, education and research initiatives and programs that demonstrate environmental stewardship, promote sustainability and celebrate the rich cultural connections between people and plants.
