Councilman Barry Grodenchik (D-Oakland Gardens) claimed victory in his race against Republican challenger Joe Concannon and will serve another four years as councilman for the 23rd Council District.
Grodenchik collected 65 percent of the vote, according to numbers cited by the New York Daily News, while Concannon collected 33 percent. Third-party candidate John Lim collected 2 percent.
The results were in keeping with most races across the city, during which incumbents held onto their seats.
“I am humbled and grateful to all the people who expressed their support for me and my team,” Grodenchik said in a statement on Facebook. “I promise you that I will continue to work to advance the interests of all people of the district as we endeavor to make our great schools even better, our safe streets even safer, to bring order to a warped and broken property tax system, and to make sure that all city services are as good as they can and should be.”
Concannon did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
