A new urgent health care facility has opened in Forest Hills.
North Shore-LIJ opened the first of its “GoHealth” urgent care centers in Queens last week.
The new center is one of 50 that will open throughout New York City and Long Island over the next four years. According to North Shore-LIJ, the centers aim to give high-quality health care at a convenient location for its patients and to relieve the overcrowding of emergency rooms in the City’s hospitals.
The company held a grand opening of the facility on Nov. 21 at 102-29 Queens Blvd., where the facility is located.
GoHealth’s CEO and founder, Si France, welcomed the crowd gathered at the event and discussed the center’s opening.
He said that the procedure room up front has clear windows so that it is easy to identify that it is a health care facility. This is an idea inspired by the computer giant Apple, France said. Apple’s stores often have an open view from outside that allows people to see right into the store instead of it being closed off.
“What we’re trying to do is take the best of what we’ve seen in retail hospitality organizations and bring that to health care,” he said.
France said that centers like this one will assist emergency rooms in helping patients with their problems.
“This is truly an emergency room alternative, not an alternative for all emergency room patients but an alternative for some things that are in the emergency room that can be handled in this kind of environment,” he said.
Technology that will be used at this facility, according to France, include a display of a patient’s medical record on a flat screen while they are in with a doctor. This provides the patients with full transparency with what is going on with their medical record, France said.
More of these facilities are set to open next year and in the future until 2018. The next one that is set to open in Queens, according to the company, is in the Lefrak City section of Corona. Others that will open will be on Long Island, including centers in Syosset and Bayshore.
