American-Architect’s Building of the Year 2013 award went to the Glen Oaks Library, which was designed by Marble Fairbanks. The project won the Public Choice award, gaining about one-fifth of all votes cast. It also won the Editor’s Choice award.
The library was also the first winner of the publication’s “50×50” Building of the Week feature, where one building from each state was selected as an example of great architecture.
“Queens Library is proud to bring such a distinctive building to the Glen Oaks community. The building is a jewel, but it is the knowledge and information inside that is the real treasure,” Joanne King, director of communications at Queens Library, said.
