Within one of Long Island’s most beautiful villages, is one of the most elegant hotels in the New York metropolitan area.
The Garden City Hotel is a luxury hotel with a tasteful and classic ambiance that befits its history. Founded in 1874, the hotel was built with the aim of attracting elites from all over the world. And that is what it did, hosting guests from the Vanderbilts to the Astors, the Kennedys and the Clintons.
Like other guests, they enjoyed the first class culinary and pastry team, the spa and the seasonal patio bar. The more recent among them also enjoyed complimentary Wi-Fi, a brand new indoor pool and fitness center, the polo lounge, which serving cocktails, and a legendary Sunday afternoon brunch.
In all, the hotel boasts 269 guest rooms, including 16 suites and three penthouse suites.
Horse racing season is the perfect time to stay at the hotel, or to visit for their classic Saturday afternoon tea. Visitors can pair a stay at the hotel with the Belmont Stakes, which takes place June 11 in nearby Elmont. Garden City hosts its own famous Belmont Stakes Promenade June 10 from 6 to 10 p.m.
For city dwellers and out of town visitors, The Garden City Hotel is easy to get to. The Long Island Rail Road’s Garden City stop, on the Hempstead line, is across the street from the hotel, and only about a 35 minute ride from Manhattan.
Most notably, The Garden City Hotel is the premiere wedding venue on Long Island and beyond. The Knot, a website dedicated to helping couples plan their weddings, awarded The Garden City Hotel a top pick multiple years in a row.
Additionally, Equally Wed, a website for gay and lesbian couples, noted that the venue not only had the finest service, catering and venue space, but the staff was also respectful, professional and welcoming to same sex couples’ wedding parties.
The hotel is known for their excellent food and their exquisite Grand Ballroom, which seats up to 500 guests, making them feel almost as if they have been transported to another, more Gatsby-like era. But just as much as the material aspects, what sets The Garden City Hotel apart when it comes to wedding parties is the level of attention and support that they give couples planning their big day. Couples work with a point person at the hotel to arrange every logistical detail – a professional who has been in the industry and can anticipate every possible outcome and continuity for which one must account.
It’s no surprise – the hotel is also a member of the “Preferred Hotels and Resorts,” a coalition of luxury, independent hotels. It is one of only 185 to earn the preferred standard of excellence status for its exceptional facilities and service.
Nestled in a community of old, majestic trees and beautifully landscaped gardens, there is a space that is as warm and welcoming as it is grand and elegant. For couples, horse racing fans, lovers of a traditional afternoon tea, and travelers looking for a place to unwind and pamper themselves, The Garden City Hotel may be just it.
