A Queens woman has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. U.S. Army National Guard Pfc. Sofia Chan, who hails from Richmond Hill, completed her nine weeks of training and studied Army history, tradition and core values as well as military courtesy, drill and ceremony. She also took part in rigorous physical fitness training, foot marches, rifle marksmanship practice, bayonet use, unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, basic first aid and chemical warfare.
Chan is a 2014 graduate of Queens Collegiate in Jamaica, and she earned an associate’s degree in 2016 from the New York City College of Technology in Brooklyn.
Ithaca College has named several northeast Queens students to its dean’s list for the fall 2016 semester, including Richmond Hill’s Bob Chang, a clinical health studies major in the college’s School of Health Sciences and Human Performance; Woodhaven’s Alexa Luciano, a television-radio major in the college’s School of Communications; and Forest Hills’ Margaret Parker, a theatrical production arts major in the college’s School of Humanities and Sciences.
Ozone Park’s Harsimran Kaur has been admitted to Cornell College for the fall 2017 semester.
