Major General Anthony P. German, the Adjutant General, announces the recent reenlistment of members of the New York Army National Guard in recognition of their continuing commitment to serve community, state and nation as part of the Army National Guard.
Specialist Angshu Bala from Jackson Heights, has reenlisted to continue service with the 4th Finance Detachment. Sergeant Robert Pinguil from East Elmhurst, has reenlisted to continue service with the 107th Military Police Company. Sergeant Irmarys Ramirez from Long Island City, has reenlisted to continue service with the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 369th Sustainment Brigade.
James Lopez of Broad Channel was among The University of Scranton students inducted into Psi Chi, the national honor society in psychology. Qualifications for induction into the honor society include a major or minor in psychology, rank in the top 35 percent in general scholarship, and superior scholarship in psychology. The University’s chapter of the honor society was established in 1969. Lopez is a junior in the College of Arts and Sciences at the Jesuit university.
Arnold Matatov of Forest Hills, has received a grant to support an internship this summer at an organization to be determined, through the Academic Internship Council in New York.
Twenty-one SUNY Oneonta students received funding totaling $25,500 through the Helen & Michael Casper Fellowship for Internship Support, which was created through the charitable gifts of Andrea Casper ‘75 in honor and memory of her parents.
Caitlin Nicosia of Breezy Point was among The University of Scranton students inducted into Kappa Delta Pi, the international honor society for education. Kappa Delta Pi is dedicated to the ideals of humanity, science, service and toil. The University’s chapter of the honor society was established in 1992. Nicosia is a sophomore in the Panuska College of Professional Studies at the Jesuit university.
Estefany Lopez of Rego Park was honored during the 2016 Chi Alpha Epsilon (XAE) award ceremony. The event officially recognized 65 new XAE members who had been admitted to the College through opportunity programs and who have maintained grade-point averages above 3.0 for at least two consecutive semesters, and 32 standing members who received membership upgrades by maintaining GPAs of 3.5 or higher since their initial induction.

Flanigan of Rockaway Point, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in counseling and human services; Caroline L. Nee of Rockaway Park, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication and Shannon C. Roche of Rockaway Park, earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in nursing.
53 student athletes competed for the SUNY Oneonta women’s track and field team during 2015-16. Among them was Konstantina Salales of Richmond Hill.
Melissa Rios of Rego Park graduated from Bucknell University on May 22.
