There will be a fundraising event on May 9 at the American Legion Hall, located at 107-15 Metropolitan Ave. in Forest Hills for the neighborhood’s annual Memorial Day Parade, which will be held on May 28.
The parade is sponsored by American Legion Post #1424, Forest Hills Kiwanis Club, TD Bank and local merchants.
More than 33 groups and bands will march along Metropolitan Avenue, from Continental Avenue to Woodhaven Boulevard, where Queens Borough President Melinda Katz and other local officials will address the crowd.
Woodhaven’s Stephanie Diaz has enrolled at Delaware Valley University—located in Doylestown, Pennsylvania—for the fall 2017 semester.
Queens students have won spring 2017 scholarships at Farmingdale State College, including Woodhaven’s Kristen Deinhardt (who won the Frank and Adeline Rich Scholarship), Ozone Park’s Tiffany Regaldo (who won the Empire State Diversity Honors Scholarship), Far Rockaway’s Chana Feldstein (who won the Henry Schein Cares Foundation Dental Hygiene Scholarship), Flushing’s Qiuyi Wang (who won the Alumni Association Alice Pan Ting Scholarship) and Luz Rozo (who won the Lillian Keily Excellence in Nursing Scholarship) and Rosedale’s Asiya Golden (who won the Dr. Loretta Chiarenza Bioscience Memorial Scholarship).
Several Queens students have been inducted into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, including Glendale’s Daniella Funaro and Admir Milla; Ridgewood’s Elizabeth Quinones; Woodside’s Melissa Permaul, Cathal Pratt and Daisy Lopez; Astoria’s Jacqueline Arcuri, Kevin Montiel and Sophia Treantafeles; Long Island City’s Nathan Miranda; Bellerose’s Stephanie Ali; Laurelton’s Lauren Cover; Jamaica Estates’ Anil Chacko; Hollis’ Carol Grant and Tamar Brown; and Jamaica’s Yoland Moriah and David Schwartzberg. Permaul attends Arizona State University, while all of the other students attend Fordham University.
