South Ozone Park’s Tiana Medley has been named to the Central Penn College dean’s list for the winter 2017 term. Medley is currently majoring in criminal justice. To qualify for the list, a student must carry six or more credit hours and earn at least a 3.5 grade point average.
Three local residents—Richmond Hill’s Konstantina Salales (an early childhood education major) and Waldo Espinosa (a history major) and Howard Beach’s Gina Digiovanni (a psychology major)—were among 192 students to receive the Susan Sutton Smith Faculty Prize for Academic Excellence at SUNY Oneonta.
The prize is named in memory of the late SUNY Oneonta professor of English. Other Queens students to receive the honor include Flushing’s Liana Walter, a communication studies major, and Kiet Tran, a computer art major.
Several Queens students are interning this spring through SUNY Oswego, including Jaime Krasner, a Rockaway Park resident and senior broadcasting and mass communication major who interned with Hobin Studios in Baldwinsville. Other student interns include Flushing’s Michelle Mourino (a senior human development major who interned with Trinity Catholic School in Oswego) and Erica Wong (a junior anthropology major who interned with Fort Ontario in Oswego) and Fresh Meadows’ Benjamin S. Laine (a senior creative writing major who interned with G&G Animals in Oswego).
Maspeth High School senior Lauren Radigan has been accepted to Yale University and awarded a $56,000 scholarship.
Far Rockaway’s Pfc. Julius Forde recently competed in the New York National Guard’s Best Warrior event at the Camp Smith Training Site near Cortlandt Manor.
Forde was among nine soldiers to compete in the competition, which was held from March 30 to April 1. Forde is assigned to Company C, 101st Expeditionary Signal Battalion.
