The Forest Hills High School’s principal’s office has confirmed that the school is on lockdown.
The person who answered the phone did not state what is taking place at the school, but only that everything is secure. Police are at the scene. The NYPD has stated that they cannot comment as the situation is still under investigation.
Students were let out of the school at approximately 1 p.m. after three hours on lockdown.
Raymond Camara, whose daughter is a senior at the school, said that he received a phone call from her at noon telling him that the school was on lockdown and police were going through the lockers. He said she told him that a student had scrawled a threatening message on a desk and this is what caused the lockdown.
A request for comment from the city’s Department of Education has yet to be returned.
State Sen. Joe Addabbo (D-Howard Beach) said he was told that the threat was a hoax and that the person responsible is in custody.
