The recently expanded and extensively renovated Alley Pond Golf Center, with a 7,000 square foot brand new clubhouse building, located at 232-01 Northern Blvd. in Douglaston, celebrated its grand opening last Friday. Alley Pond Golf Center is the largest golf center in Queens and one of only three such facilities associated with the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation.
Nestled at the edge of Alley Pond Park, the second largest public park in Queens, Alley Pond Golf Center underwent a $3 million renovation to offer customers a new and improved golf and recreational experience. Highlights of the renovation include an expanded clubhouse, 40 additional roofed, temperature-controlled driving stations, renovation of the miniature golf course, the addition of an indoor PGA simulator and an improved traffic pattern and parking for customer convenience.
The clubhouse facility tripled in size and space, to feature Alley Pond Sports Bar & Grill, which is a modern sports bar with a sophisticated décor, a patio and deck, two dozen TVs, an extensive selection of craft beers, wine and spirits and cuisine offered by a four-star chef. The added golf stations bring the total roofed and temperature controlled golf stations to 72, more than any other facility in the vicinity. The indoor PGA golf simulator replicates more than a dozen prized courses, including but not limited to, Augusta National, Pebble Beach, Firestone Country Club, and Doral’s Blue Monster.
Queens Parks Commissioner Dorothy Lewandowski said she was excited about the renovations.
“This is an incredible amenity addition,” Lewandowski said. “You can recreate with your family, with golfers, but you can also, my understanding is that in the back there’s a party room with a simulator where you can play any golf course that’s in the United States – indoors, in air conditioning.”
“I’m looking forward to hitting a few balls,” Lewandowski added.
Assemblyman Edward Braunstein (D-Bayside) also said he was looking forward to utilizing the facility.
“My colleague to the west, Assemblyman Ron Kim and I we like to come here and invite our Assembly colleagues from the city. When they visit our area, we usually come here, we hit a few golf balls, and then we go somewhere else and have dinner.
But now we’ll be able to come here, hit a few golf balls, and just walk right over here and check out what executive Chef Marcos has to offer,” Braunstein said.
Attracting everyone from serious golfers to novices of all ages, Alley Pond Golf Center offers a summer golf camp, clinics and private sessions with licensed professionals. Golf Center hours are 6 a.m. to midnight daily, with ample free parking.
Alley Pond Golf Center is owned and operated by Alley Pond Driving Range, Inc., which has operated the golf center since 2009. The Golf Center is part of Alley Pond Park, a 635 acre park whose amenities include the Alley Pond Environmental Center, an adventure course and walking trails.
