Loyola University Maryland has added several northeast Queens students to its Dean’s List for the Fall 2016 semester, including Fresh Meadows’ Emily Kim (class of 2020), Bayside’s John Marchisello (class of 2017), Flushing’s Katherine McKay (class of 2019), Floral Park’s Krishna Patel (class of 2019), Douglaston’s Erin Pellegrino (class of 2019) and Danielle Segal (class of 2017) and Whitestone’s Jamie Reinah (class of 2017).
To make the list, students must have a 3.5 grade point average and complete at least 15 credit hours.
Ithaca College has named several northeast Queens students to its Dean’s List for the Fall 2016 semester, including Oakland Gardens’ Juliana Betancur, a musical theater major in the college’s School of Humanities and Sciences; Flushing’s Hui Liu, a business administration major in the college’s School of Business; Oakland Gardens’ Marcelo Lu, a business administration major in the college’s School of Business; Bellerose’s Emma Noblesala, a television-radio major in the college’s School of Communications; College Point’s Simren Singh, a business administration major in the college’s School of Business; Flushing’s Nathiel Tejada, a theater studies major in the college’s School of Humanities and Sciences; College Point’s Jennifer Walsh, a cinema and photography major in the college’s School of Communications; and Oakland Gardens’ Jingqi Wu, an exploratory major in the college’s School of Humanities and Sciences.
Whitestone’s Christopher Khalil, a junior, has been named to the Dean’s List for the Fall 2016 semester at Randolph-Macon Academy.
To make the list, students must achieve a 3.5 grade point average.
The New York Army National Guard held a battle handoff ceremony in February, during which several Queens residents officially kicked off their military careers, including Flushing’s Pfc. Zamora Rayo joined Company B, 642nd Support Battalion, and Flushing’s Pvt. Yuqing Cui joined the 222nd Chemical Company. Also, Flushing’s Pvt. Jacob Slatnick joined the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry and Whitestone’s Pfc. Joshua Samet joined Company C, 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry.
Bellerose’s Sophia Robinson has been named to the president’s list at Clemson University for the fall 2016 semester. To make the list, students must achieve a 4.0 average – or, all A grades.
A northeast Queens woman was among several Stonehill College students to sing for Pope Francis as part of a seven-day pilgrimage to Italy for the college’s chapel choir.
Mary Grace Donohue, who hails from Fresh Meadows, took part in a performance for the pope along with 32 other Stonehill students at the culmination of a week in Italy. The group also sang in St. Peter’s Basilica and held a concert at the San Lorenzo International Youth Center.
“We are deeply honored to act as ambassadors for Stonehill through this year’s pilgrimage,” said Phil Pereira, campus minister for music and liturgy. “This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that these students, parents and staff will cherish forever.”
Stonehill College is located in North Easton, Massachusetts.
Boston University has named several northeast Queens students to its Dean’s List for the Fall 2016 semester, including Oakland Gardens’ Jeffrey Lin, Justin Wong and Haeun Yang; Flushing’s Nicholas Boukis, Jessica Lam, Megan C. Wong and Helen Zou; Glen Oaks’ Vyshnavi Parthipan; College Point’s Andrea Cheng and Green C. Kim; and Bellerose’s Elayne M. Pereira.
To make the list, students must attain a 3.5 grade point average or be in the top 30 percent of their class as well as take a full course load.
Flushing’s U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Virginia M. Wills graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland.
Wills completed an intensive eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.
She graduated from Francis Lewis High School in Fresh Meadows in 2011 and earned a bachelor’s degree in 2015 from John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
East Elmhurst’s Stacy Palacios, a science biology major, took part in SUNY Oswego’s alternative winter break program, during which she worked with Habitat for Humanity of Omaha, Nebraska to build affordable homes for local families.
Long Island City’s Jacob Belabed has been admitted to Cornell College for the Fall 2017 semester.
