Eddie’s Sweet Shop
105-29 Metropolitan Ave., Forest Hills
Eddie’s Sweet Shop, a family-owned homemade ice cream parlor straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting, has been a staple of the Forest Hills community since 1909. The current owner, Vito Citrano, took over from his father, Giuseppe Citrano, who bought the shop in 1968 and changed the name from Witt’s to Eddie’s.
In its century of existence, the décor has not changed much, which makes it difficult to maintain, the owner has noted. All of the ice cream—including the toppings and syrups that you can add to your purchase—are made at the store. The shop offers approximately 20 different flavors, including chocolate, vanilla and rum raisin, and has stuck to more traditional flavors rather than experimental flavors that other ice cream stores offer. Eddie’s has only added 10 flavors to the shop since 1968.
The shop—which is nearly always packed with patrons—also serves milkshakes, sundaes, floats, ice cream sodas, egg creams, hot chocolate and espresso. It also has a large selection of candy, from modern to classic treats.
