Denise Passarelli decided to start Denise Makes Cakes in Astoria because birthdays have always been one of her favorite times to celebrate.
From the time she was young, cakes and other yummy baked goodies have always been synonymous with a celebration. Twelve years ago, Passarelli began making cakes for her family and enjoyed it so much that she decided to make a career out of it.
Passarelli graduated from the Institute of Culinary Education in February 2011 with a diploma in Pastry and Baking Arts. In June 2012, she also graduated from the institute’s Culinary Management program, where she was voted “most likely to succeed.”
Honing her skills with cake sculpting, sugar flowers and sugar work, Passarelli has completed advanced pastry classes with cake masters Elisa Strauss, Michelle Bommarito, Karen Portaleo, Susan Notter, Stevi Auble and Ron Ben Israel.
Most recently, Passarelli was a competitor on the Food Network’s Cake Wars and, prior to that, she made a cake for the HBO show Vinyl.
Some of the company’s cake flavors include red velvet, banana, chocolate, sour cream, carrot, peanut butter, strawberry, marble and pumpkin spice. Among Denise Makes Cakes’ frostings are vanilla, chocolate, Nutella, cream cheese, Irish cream, molasses, and cookies and cream.
Denise Makes Cakes creates delicious memories one cake at a time. To have an edible work of art created for you, contact Passarelli by phone at (917) 689-4857 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
