As we approach the holidays, many of us may overindulge in sweets, alcohol and home-cooked meals, leaving us with indigestion and feeling bloated and constipated.
As a certified personal trainer and Reiki master specializing in alternative health, I encourage clients to heal their body naturally with the help of essential oils; exercising; limiting or avoiding white flour, sugar, wheat and processed foods; and making small changes that lead to a healthy lifestyle. I also recommend going for a 20- to 30-minute walk after a meal to help blood circulation and decrease bloating and constipation.
Below are four essential oils to help boost your metabolism, aid in digestion, and decrease bloating and constipation
• Grapefruit – prevents bloating and water retention: Add one to two drops of grapefruit essential oil to warm or room-temperature water and drink 30 minutes before eating a meal.
• Slim & Sassy – decreases hunger cravings, manages appetite, boosts metabolism and gives you energy: Add four drops to four ounces of warm or room-temperature water and drink 30 minutes before eating a meal.
• Cinnamon – improves digestion and boosts metabolism: Dilute cinnamon oil in a base of olive oil. Then massage oil on the abdomen for five minutes to help the digestive system and expel intestinal gas while relieving bloating and abdominal discomfort.
• DigestZen – helps with bloating and cramping and boosts metabolism: Add one to two drops of DigestZen oil to warm or room-temperature water and drink within 30 minutes after a meal. For immediate relief, take one to two drops of DigestZen oil and rub on your abdomen directly after a meal. (For sensitive skin, use a carrier oil such as coconut oil.)
You can put one drop of each oil in warm or room-temperature water and drink before meals, or you can use them topically or diffuse them. Before digesting essential oils, make sure the labels indicate they can be digested. For high-quality oils, I recommend Doterra.
