Due Ponti – which literally means “two bridges” in Italian – is an authentic Italian restaurant, conveniently nestled on the East River between the Whitestone and Throgs Neck bridges.
Joe Fasschin, owner of Due Ponti, has been catering to hungry customers in Northern Queens for the past five years, after converting the former marina into a waterfront restaurant.
It is here – between the two bridges – that you will find an assortment of Italian cuisine, all prepared by Due Ponti’s Head Chef Carlo. A graduate from the French Culinary Institute, Chef Carlo has years of experience working with cuisine. Although working in a restaurant is a new experience for the chef, he previously served as the personal chef to such big names as Kenneth Langone, who co-founded the Home Depot, and rock music icon Jon Bon Jovi.
Among his signature dishes Chef Carlo recommends the Risotto di Mare, which is served with shrimp, scallops, mussels and calamari in a saffron sauce, the Piatto Caldo – which means hot plate in Italian – and the Salmon Carmelina, which is served with scallions, shrimp, cherry tomatoes in a lemon and white wine sauce.
“[The Piatto Caldo] is the big one,” Carlo said. “This is what you order if you bring your friend or girlfriend because you get to taste every different type of seafood… and it only costs $22.”
But the variety of delectable Italian delicacies doesn’t stop there. A trip to Due Ponti restaurant is not complete without trying some dessert, several of which are prepared by the restaurant’s pastry Chef Carmelina.
Among her many specialties, Carmelina is best known for her tiramisu, a classic among the Italian dining crowd. Due Ponti also includes such popular dessert dishes as crème brûlée, New York style cheesecake and an espresso Panna Cotta – a traditional Italian dessert made with heavy crème, gelatin and sugar – garnished with a Kahlua Chocolate Espresso sauce.
In addition, the restaurant also caters to events such as weddings, bar mitzvahs, birthdays and more. Due Ponti is also preparing a special menu for the Easter holidays.
