A College Point elementary school music teacher was found dead in an upstate wooded area on May 13, police said.
Keith Johnson, 46, who taught at PS 29, was last seen on May 4 near the school. Johnson was discovered unresponsive in a Woodland Valley trailhead near Shandaken in Ulster County.
The teacher’s body was located moments after Shandaken police discovered Johnson’s gray 2006 Hyundai Elantra near the trailhead following a tip that he had gone hiking in the area, police said.
According to police, Johnson was hypothermic and semiconscious when he was found, but died before being transported to a nearby hospital.
The exact cause of Johnson’s death has not yet been confirmed, although authorities have said it did not appear suspicious. The investigation is ongoing.
