When the stresses of family, shopping and party planning make the holiday season rocky, the best escape can often be found on the rocks.
Check out these five holiday-themed cocktails that can help you cope with this busy time of year without losing your holiday cheer.
Pumpkin Pie Martini
This cocktail celebrates a classic holiday dessert: pumpkin pie. This martini, courtesy of HGTV.com, mixes that pumpkin spice flavor with Kahlua and butterscotch schnapps for a comforting holiday treat.
You’ll need ½ oz. of Stoli Vanilla, 1 oz. of pumpkin spice liqueur, ½ oz. of Kahlua, ½ oz. of butterscotch Schnapps, ½ oz. of half-and-half and crushed graham crackers.
Just pour all the liquids in a shaker filled with ice. Shake and strain the concoction into a large martini glass rimmed with crushed graham crackers. For an extra flavor, garnish it with a cinnamon stick.
Hot Peppermint Rod
Enjoy that wintery peppermint flavor with this cocktail that’s guaranteed to keep you warm during the holidays, courtesy of HGTV.com
Fill an Irish coffee mug with two parts vodka and two parts peppermint schnapps. Add two parts grenadine syrup to give the drink a holiday coloring, and add hot water to fill the mug. Top it off with whipped cream and garnish it with a peppermint rod or candy cane.
This tart cocktail will help you deal with those moments when your holiday spirit is drained and your inner Grinch is crying to be released.
According to a recipe on mixthatdrink.com, the Grinch can be made by mixing 2 oz. of Midori, ½ oz. of lemon juice and 1 tea spoon of simple syrup in a cocktail shaker along with ice. Shake well until chilled and then strain the drink into a chilled martini glass.
A couple sips of the Grinch, and your holiday cheer will start to return.
Another cocktail courtesy of mixthatdrink.com, the Red Rudolph mixes fruity flavors with a blast of cinnamon, offering a perfect, sweet and warm dessert drink to celebrate the season.
You’ll need ½ oz. of orange curacao, ¾ oz. of cinnamon schnapps, ½ oz. of vodka and 6 oz. of cranberry juice.
Heat the cranberry juice and pour everything else into an Irish coffee mug. Slowly add the hot cranberry juice—the drink should be served warm. Top it off with whipped cream and enjoy.
Layered Christmas Shooter
This sour drink, courtesy of the Food Network, will help get your Christmas party started off right. And with a pretty, layered color effect, it’s sure to get guests talking.
Pour 1 and ½ oz. of apple schnapps into a shot glass. Gently pour in ½ teaspoon of grenadine, allowing it to sink to the bottom and create a red-colored bottom layer. Shake a bottle of cinnamon schnapps, and then turn it upside down to allow the gold flakes to rise to the top. Measure out ¾ oz. of the cinnamon schnapps, and gently pour it over the back of a spoon to make the third color layer.
