Broadway actor, singer and recording artist Jason Danieley will perform some of the tunes he’s sung on Broadway at the LaGuardia Performing Arts Center in Long Island City this weekend.
Danieley—who has starred in such Broadway shows as Chicago, The Visit with Chita Rivera, Curtains, Next to Normal and The Full Monty—will be featured as Carnegie Hall’s featured musical theatre star for its free Neighborhood Concert Series.
“For more than four decades, Carnegie Hall has partnered with venues throughout New York City to present more than 1,000 free Neighborhood Concerts in all five boroughs,” said Carnegie Hall spokesman Eli Rumpf. “In planning the series, we look to feature a wide range of musical genres, including classical, jazz, world and popular music, and to showcase up-and-coming as well as established artists.”
For more than four decades, Carnegie Hall has partnered with local community organizations and provided free concerts that bring together residents from communities across the five boroughs to share in the joy of music.
This year, the performers include everyone from main stage artists to rising stars of classical, jazz and world music.
According to Rumpf, Carnegie Hall wanted to incorporate a Broadway performer in this year’s performances. Although this is the first year that a Broadway performer of Danieley’s stature is taking part in the concert series, he has participated in past productions with the company.
Danieley’s works with Carnegie Hall include concert performances of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel and South Pacific.
Recently, Playbill announced that Danieley has boarded the Broadway-bound musical adaptation of Pretty Woman, in which he will take on the role of Philip Stuckey.
Danieley made his Broadway debut at age 25 in the revival of Candide, taking on the role of the lead character. Pop artist and legend Prince was once quoted in the New York Times saying that, “It’s unusual in the world of musical theater to find someone who can sing as well as he can act. Mark my words: Jason has an extraordinary future ahead of him.”
The Neighborhood Concert Series is slated to take place on Nov. 12 at 3 p.m. in the Mainstage Theater at LaGuardia Performing Arts Center.
Although the event is free, guests are required to RSVP.
