To boost the holiday spirit in Sunnyside, the Sunnyside Shines Business Improvement District launched a photo contest to find the best holiday window display at local stores.

Rachel Thieme, executive director of the Sunnyside Shines BID, said their hope is to encourage local stores to create a festive holiday shopping environment.

“The contest is a fun way to engage community members and businesses to get into the shop local holiday spirit,” she added.

The winning store will receive a cash prize of $500 at the end of the contest.

To enter the contest, upload a photo of a store’s decorated holiday windows to the Sunnyside Shines Facebook page, or by uploading a photo to Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #SunnysideWindowContest.

All shoppers and store owners are encouraged to submit photos of local stores with holiday decorations as well as vote on the submitted entries.

All photos must depict a business within the boundaries of the Sunnyside Shines BID, which includes properties fronting Queens Boulevard from 38th – 50th Streets and properties fronting Greenpoint Ave. from Queens Blvd., mid-block between 42nd and 43rd Streets.

All entries will be accepted by Dec. 16. The voting period is currently active and ends on Dec. 18 at 5 p.m. Only one vote per day is allowed.
