Like the many photos used to create one on the front page of this issue, there are many things Gary Ackerman has accomplished that have enhanced life as a whole in our borough.

As a teacher, Ackerman devoted himself to helping less advantaged children.

As a journalist, he created a unique brand of community journalism.

As an elected official, he has served Queens and its various communities.

Like our front page, it can be the little things that make the difference and contribute to the larger picture as a whole.
No wonder this man is smiling.
