Founded in 1929, St. Jean Baptiste High School, located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, educates young women of diverse strengths and backgrounds. Through a rigorous academic program, St. Jean Baptiste High School prepares its graduates to excel in college and their future professions.
As a Catholic Community rooted in the spirit of St. Marguerite Bourgeoys—the foundress of the Sisters of the Congregation of Notre Dame—St. Jean Baptiste High School develops women of faith, service and leadership and empowers the whole community to participate in the transformation of society for a more just world. The school is registered with the New York State Department of Education and accredited by the Commission on Secondary Schools of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
The school partners with St. Joseph’s College and students earn college credits in writing, French and Spanish literature.
Advanced Placement courses in English, social studies, math, science and Spanish as well as advanced science and math electives are offered. Students participate in programs such as The Cornell Weill Medical Research Internship, Physician Assistant Program at Lenox Hill Hospital, Futures and Options Career Essential Program, Cooper Union Summer Research Institute in Science and Engineering, Telluride Association Summer Seminar at Indiana University and Hugh O’Brien Leadership Conference at Adelphi University. All seniors participate in a full day of service each week at local hospitals, schools, soup kitchens, senior centers and other social service agencies, earning 140 hours throughout the school year.
Activities include Student Council, National Art Honor Society, National English Honor Society, National Honor Society, French and Spanish Honor Societies, Ambassadors, fencing, softball, soccer, track, step team, as well as clubs in art and photography, coding, cooking, Latina dance, public speaking, graphic novel and global concern.
The school’s enrollment is 350 students, 100 percent of whom graduate and attend college. The principal is Sister Maria Cassano, CND. Tuition for the 2017 to 2018 school year is $8,200.
