A 71-year-old Elmhurst man was killed during a motor vehicle collision on Northern Boulevard in Jackson Heights on Sept. 13, police said.
Jose Gomez, who lived on Broadway, was discovered around 4 p.m. by police after they responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian on Northern Boulevard in the vicinity of 85th Street.
Upon arrival, police discovered Gomez, who had head trauma, lying in the roadway. EMS transported Gomez to Elmhurst General Hospital, where he died on Sept. 17. An investigation by the NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad determined that Gomez was standing next to his 2013 Toyota Camry, which was parked on the north side of Northern Boulevard, just east of 85th Street.
An unknown black sedan was traveling eastbound on Northern Boulevard in the center lane and struck the pedestrian with the front side of the vehicle. Gomez was thrown forward and struck his car and an additional parked vehicle before coming to rest on the roadway.
The driver of the black sedan fled the scene and was last observed heading towards 84th Street. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
