FATAL COLLISION —
A 62-year-old Astoria man was killed on March 1 following a collision at 31st Street and 35th Avenue, police said.
Police responded to a call regarding a vehicle collision just after 5 p.m., where they discovered that a 22-year-old man driving a 2003 Ford Taurus south on 31st Street had crossed over the northbound lane while attempting to overtake a vehicle in front of him, proceeded through the intersection of 35th Avenue and collided into a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta that had been traveling east on 35th Avenue and was driven by Astoria’s Nadam Mohamed.
The Volkswagen then collided into a train stanchion and an unoccupied parked vehicle. EMS transported Mohamed to Elmhurst Hospital, where he died from his injuries four days later. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
