A 28-year-old Ozone Park man died after being beaten by two men on the Grand Central Parkway near 49th Avenue and then run over a different driver on Feb. 4, police said.
Just before 4:30 a.m., police responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision on the eastbound Grand Central Parkway and, upon arriving, discovered Hassan Jones unconscious and unresponsive with severe trauma about the body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Further investigation by the NYPD’s Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that Jones had been a passenger in a black Infiniti sedan that had been involved in a minor collision with a Gray Nissan Murano.
Both vehicles had come to a stop on the roadway and the occupants exited the vehicles. Jones had been assaulted at the location and fell on the roadway, while the occupants of both vehicles fled the location in their vehicles, police said.
Then, 19-year-old Starlyn-Antonio Colon-Burgos, of 98-38 57th Ave. in Corona, is alleged to have struck Jones with a white Acura sedan as the Ozone Park man lay on the roadway before colliding with another vehicle. Colon-Burgos is alleged to have abandoned his vehicle and fled the location, but later arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death, police said.
Nearly two weeks later, the incident had been deemed a homicide and another individual— Yomar Moran, 20, of 23-35 97th St. in East Elmhurst— was arrested and charged with murder, manslaughter, robbery and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
