Police said that they are investigating a fatal collision that took place on Aug. 12 on the Jackie Robinson Parkway and claimed the life of a Queens Village man.
Just before noon, police responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision on the Jackie Robinson Parkway between exits three and four within the confines of the 104th Precinct. Upon arrival, police discovered Fernando Ocasio Jr., 26, who lived on 217th Lane in Queens Village, unconscious and unresponsive behind the wheel of a black 2011 BMW M3 sedan convertible.
EMS transported Ocasio to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on Aug. 23. Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad discovered that Ocasio had been traveling westbound on the Jackie Robinson Parkway in the right lane at an unsafe speed. Ocasio had attempted to change lanes from right to left, failed to navigate the roadway and struck a tree located on the right side of the highway. The investigation is ongoing.
