A 50-year-old man was killed after being struck by a vehicle on Tuesday morning in Richmond Hill, police said.
Just after midnight, police responded to a 911 call of an unconscious man lying on the southbound Van Wyck Expressway at 91st Avenue between the second and third travel lanes. Upon arrival, police officers observed an unidentified man with severe body and head trauma.
EMS pronounced the man, whose name has not been released, dead. An investigation by the NYPD’s Highway District Collision Investigation Squad determined that a grey 2014 Honda Accord traveling southbound on the expressway that was operated by a 22-year-old man had struck the pedestrian as he was attempting to cross the expressway from west to east. The vehicle had initially left the location, but returned to the scene. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
